Cuba Summer School 2014
January 2014
From 7th July till 7th August we will be going for the fourth time to Cuba (Havana) to participate at the Summer School at ProDanza. Twenty-six of our dance students will take this highly intensive study course.
Cuballet is a renowned summer programme run by the ProDanza Centre in Havana, home to Laura Alonso’s ballet school and company. Students aged 10-18 participate in four weeks of classes (ballet, repertoire, character, pointe, pas de deux, contemporary, Spanish, popular Cuban, make-up, acting and physical efficiency) and rehearsals, culminating in a ballet performance at the Gran Teatro in Havana. In 2014, Cuballet will be performing Swan Lake.
The students will be accompanied by five chaperones who will take care of the students 24/7. Side to their dance lessons the students will also enjoy the culture life of the Cubans, their beautiful beaches, swimming pool and food.
This trip is an amazing opportunity that enriches our young dancers’ lives in so many ways!
Fundraising Gala at The Royal Opera House
April 2014
Enormous gratitude to Caroline Levy and her incredible committee of dedicated parents for organizing the glamorous and hugely successful fundraising Gala Dinner (16th March 2014) in the Paul Hamlyn Hall at The Royal Opera House.
Wine was overflowing, flowers blossoming, costums sparkling, gowns glittering, a delectable dinner and the excited chatter of 85 of our students as they performed to an exceptionally high standard on stage in front of over 350 guests.
Check out the article written by Graham Watts in the May Issue of The Dancing Times. He said,
"The lives of several young dancers will be enhanched forever as a consequence of one glittering evening" and "The evening was fronted by the Foundation's Honorary Patron Darcey Bussell and attended by several prominent dancers keen to give their support to this worthy cause".
Thanks to the wonderful auction lots, exciting raffle prizes and the generosity of so many, we have been able to offer more scholarships than ever before to the pupils of WLSDance and YDA.
